Handmade Cards with Scrapbook Supplies
Everything in your scrapbook kit — stamps, dies, patterned paper, embellishments — works just as well for card making. A lot of Hip Kit Club members get 2-3 cards out of each monthly kit on top of their layouts. It's a great way to use up paper scraps and smaller embellishments that might not anchor a full 12x12 page.
The basic card size is A2 (4.25" x 5.5"), which fits a standard invitation envelope. Score a piece of 8.5x11 cardstock in half, and you've got your card base. From there, layer patterned papers, stamp a sentiment, add a die-cut topper, and you're done in 15 minutes.
Kirei Baldwin's tutorials are especially popular for card making — she demonstrates creative ways to use Hip Kit stamps and dies for cards that look way more complex than they actually are. Check out the tutorials below for everything from simple one-layer cards to elaborate interactive designs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size should handmade cards be?
A2 (4.25 x 5.5 inches folded) is standard — it fits common invitation envelopes. Score and fold an 8.5x5.5 inch piece of cardstock. Some crafters prefer A6 (4.75 x 6.5 inches) for a larger canvas.
Can I mail handmade cards?
Yes! Keep embellishments relatively flat (nothing that will catch in postal machines) and use a padded envelope or put the card in a rigid mailer. Dimensional elements like foam-mounted die cuts ship fine in most cases.
How do I use scrapbook paper for cards?
Cut panels of patterned paper slightly smaller than your card front and layer them. Scrapbook paper is usually 12x12, so you can get 4+ card panels from a single sheet. Use scraps from layouts — nothing goes to waste.
